FAQ

Everything you'd like to know first

Appointments, prices, turnaround and bridal work — the questions our four workshops in Berlin, Brandenburg and the Altmark hear most. Can't find yours? Call us or just drop by.

General

Do I need an appointment or can I just walk in?

Most repairs and alterations are accepted without an appointment — just walk in. For bridal alterations we recommend calling ahead so we can set aside the time you need.

How many locations does wiederjut have?

wiederjut has four workshops: Berlin-Treptow (Baumschulenstraße), Bernau bei Berlin, Strausberg and Tangermünde — bridal alterations available at all locations.

Can I bring in clothes I didn't buy from you?

Yes. We alter and repair your own garments — from a favourite piece to fast fashion to a suit. Just bring it in.

Do you speak English?

Yes. We advise in both German and English and regularly work for international customers — from quick repairs to wedding dresses.

What should I bring to a fitting?

The garment plus the shoes and underwear you'll wear with it. For trousers and dresses, the shoes and heel height decide the correct length.

Prices & payment

How much does pants hemming cost?

Pants hemming starts at €12 for jeans; dress pants and chinos from €15. The final price depends on fabric and alteration, usually one to three working days.

How much does replacing a zipper cost?

Standard zippers from €20. Concealed or two-way zippers on jackets and coats a little more. We quote the fixed price before we start.

How do you calculate the price?

We look at the garment and give you a binding fixed price before any work starts. No surprises at pickup.

Can I get an estimate in advance?

Yes. Drop by or send a photo on WhatsApp — for an exact price a quick look at the fabric and seam is best.

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash and debit card. Please ask when dropping off if you need other payment options.

How it works & timing

How long does an alteration take?

Most standard alterations — hem, taking in, small repairs — are ready in one to three working days. Simple repairs often the same day.

Do you offer same-day repairs?

Often, yes — ripped seams, loose buttons and broken zippers are usually fixed in 1–2 hours (from €15). Send us a photo on WhatsApp first so we can let you know if we have capacity today.

What counts as a same-day repair?

Sewing on a button, closing a split seam and replacing small zippers are often done in 1–2 hours with no appointment. More complex jobs are always quoted first and given an agreed date.

How do wedding dress alterations work?

By appointment. Most wedding dresses are ready in one to two working days — hem, fit and bodice. Hem from €45, fit and bodice on request. Appointments available at all four workshops.

How fast can you alter a wedding dress?

Where traditional bridal studios plan 8–12 weeks, most of our alterations are ready in one to two working days. If it's getting tight before the wedding, call us — we'll find a way.

Bridal & occasions

How early should I come with my wedding dress?

As soon as you have the dress is most relaxed. But because we work fast, short notice is fine too — often just a few days before the wedding.

Do you also alter the bodice, straps and neckline?

Yes. Taking in or letting out, shortening straps, adjusting the bodice, sewing in cups — hem from €45, fit and bodice on request.

Can you work with delicate fabrics like silk, lace or chiffon?

Yes. Silk, lace, organza and chiffon require hand-finishing and experience — both of which we bring.

Do you alter formalwear for proms, confirmations and first day of school?

Yes. Suit, dress or skirt ready in time for the occasion — bring the garment and your date, and we'll plan the alteration around it.

Do you alter dirndl and áo dài?

We alter dirndl and traditional dress at all four locations. Áo dài alterations we offer specifically at our Berlin-Treptow workshop.

Repairs & specials

Do you repair leather and faux leather?

Standard repairs such as zippers or seams on leather and faux leather are accepted. Larger alterations or reworks are assessed individually — just bring it in.

Do you repair shoes?

We offer shoe repair at our Strausberg workshop — new heels, soles and smaller leather work.

Is invisible mending possible?

Small holes and worn patches can be closed with invisible re-weaving (Kunststopfen) to near-invisible results. Larger tears are repaired as patch work — we set realistic expectations before starting.

Can you rework heirloom pieces?

Yes. A mother's dress for her daughter, inherited pieces, favourites with a story — we work carefully and talk through each step with you first.

Do you repair outdoor and technical clothing?

We repair tears, zippers and seams on jackets and outdoor clothing. On coated or waterproof fabrics we'll tell you honestly upfront what's sensibly possible.

Still have questions?

Can't find your question?
