Prepare your leather item for repair
So we can assess the work and price quickly.
- 01
Show the damage
Point out the spot: a stuck zip, an open seam, a tear, worn-through lining or a loose press stud.
- 02
Don't glue or sew it yourself
DIY glue or stitching attempts often make the repair harder. Better to leave the piece untreated.
- 03
Mention the condition
Tell us whether the leather is cared for, dry or brittle — it affects what can be done cleanly.
- 04
Name your wishes for the part
Should the same zip go in, or a different colour or slider? Tell us in advance.
- 05
Come by with the leather item
We assess the piece, tell you honestly what's possible, and name the price and turnaround.
What can be repaired on leather
More can be done on leather jackets and trousers than many think: replacing the zip, closing open seams, treating small tears, renewing worn-through lining, replacing press studs and hardware. Alterations are possible too — shortening sleeves or hem, taking the piece in. Real leather is robust and takes such work well when it's done cleanly.
Typical leather work
What we do most often on leather.
- Replacing the zip on a leather jacket or trousers.
- Closing seams and treating small tears.
- Renewing or patching the lining.
- Shortening sleeves or hem.
- Taking a jacket or trousers in or out.
- Replacing press studs, buttons and hardware.
What it costs
Leather is handwork: the price depends on the type of leather, how accessible the spot is and the replacement part — so we name it after assessment. A zip in a leather jacket, for example, is much more work than in a fabric piece, because the old tape has to be unpicked and the new one fitted precisely. We give the firm price once we've seen the piece.
Real leather, faux leather and suede
Real leather repairs and alters best. Faux leather is trickier, because the coating can crack at seams — we say honestly whether the work will hold. Suede and nubuck need particular care. We alter and repair leather; deep chemical cleaning or re-dyeing belongs to leather cleaning, not to our services.
Repair instead of replace
A good leather jacket lasts decades and gets better with time. A new zip or a closed seam costs a fraction of a new piece — and saves something that's long been broken in. But we'll also say openly when a repair on very brittle or damaged leather is no longer worth it.

Frequently asked questions about leather repair
What does a leather repair cost?
It depends on the type of leather, the spot and the replacement part — leather is handwork. We name the firm price after assessing the piece.
Can you replace the zip on a leather jacket?
Yes. It's more work than on fabric, because the old tape is unpicked and the new one fitted precisely. Price on request after assessment.
Do you also repair faux leather or suede?
Real leather best. Faux leather is trickier, as the coating can crack — we say honestly in advance whether it will hold. Suede we treat with particular care.
Can a leather jacket be taken in?
Yes, in many cases — as can shortening sleeves or hem. How much makes sense depends on the cut and the seams.
Do you also clean leather?
We alter and repair leather. Deep chemical cleaning or re-dyeing is handled by a specialist leather cleaner.
How long does a leather repair take?
It varies with the work. We give a firm pickup day once we've assessed the piece.
